The Service

Departing from the New Pier, Ballyvaughan, the service will run morning and evening, and will facilitate commuters from the North Clare area needing to travel to Galway. With ample parking available at the pier, as a commuter you can park and ride across the bay directly into the heart of Galway city, leaving the stress of traffic jams and parking behind them.

This service will also provide travellers from Galway with a novel and exciting way to visit and explore the Burren. We have teamed up with guesthouses and restaurants to create accommodation and meal value packages to enhance your trip.

The service will be operated by experienced ferry operator Liam O'Brien of on behalf of Ballyvaughan Bay Hop in a fully licenced 12-seater passenger rib as part of this pilot project to establish a community fast passenger service serving the North Clare region.

The Vessel

A RIB is a passenger boat with a rigid hull and an inflatable outer rim, making it one of the safest and fastest types of boats available. The boat in use for these current trips can carry up to 12 passengers and two crew people. It is fully enclosed to protect passengers from the elements and provide maximum comfort during the journey.

Ballyvaughan Bay Hop Fast Ferry Service from Ballyvaughan to Galway with O Brien Line

Ballyvaughan Bay Hop is a not-for-profit community group with the sole purpose of proving that there is strong interest and need for this type of transport option from both sides of Galway Bay. We are very grateful to the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark for supporting this trial with funding under the TransTourism project.
